ABOUT US

The Most Pressing Need

Homelessness and insufficient emergency accommodation were identified as Caboolture Shire’s most pressing needs in the 1990’s. It continues to be the regions most pressing need. That is why the Haven exists.

Our Purpose

We provide persons who are homeless and/or are at risk of homelessness with accommodation support and assistance to re-establish themselves within the community achieving safe, affordable and sustainable accommodation.

Our Philosophy

The Haven models a non-judgmental environment that cares for people in need, regardless of age, cultural, family, criminal, religious or heath backgrounds.

OUR LEGACY

In the late 1970’s a group of volunteers began responding to the emerging need to provide a safe place for women and children escaping domestic violence. Soon afterward, in 1980, Queensland Rail bought land near lower King Street to build what is now known as the Caboolture Railway Station.
At the time, there were a number of vacant properties situated on the land, which Queensland Rail offered to these volunteers as a haven for families in crisis. This is where the concept of the Haven was born.

30 years & Evolving..

The Haven is now a collection of benevolent not for profit entities which own and rent properties to provide crisis accommodation. All Haven entities are totally funded privately by the community, businesses and its various social enterprises.

The Haven is one of the very few privately funded social housing providers in the world

Through the work of our staff and volunteers, this legacy survives with NO government funding!
